The series follows Girijabala Sanyal, a sharp-witted widow in her mid-60s who lives alone in Bishnupur after the loss of her husband and son, and years of estrangement from her family. Known in her neighbourhood for her keen observational skills and instinct for solving everyday mysteries, her quiet life takes an unexpected turn when her estranged granddaughter, Jaggaseni, suddenly returns from abroad.
Jaggaseni arrives in town to attend the wedding of her friend Amrapali, a member of the influential Singha political family. However, what begins as a joyous celebration soon spirals into a disturbing mystery.
Speaking about the series, *Srabanti Chatterjee*, who plays Girijabala Sanyal, said, “Girijabala is a fascinating character — sharp, intuitive and quietly fearless. What I loved most about the story is how it brings together suspense with a deeply emotional relationship between a grandmother and her granddaughter.”
*Divyani Mondal*, who essays Jaggaseni Sanyal, shared, “Jaggaseni is determined and strong-minded, and her journey through the investigation is both intense and emotional. The dynamic between the two characters really drives the narrative forward.”
*Director Ayan Chakraborti* added, “Thakumar Jhuli is a mystery rooted in relationships and human instincts. While the story unfolds like a thriller, it is also about two generations coming together to seek the truth.”
*Directed by Ayan Chakraborti and written by Samragnee Bandyopadhyay, the series stars Srabanti Chatterjee as Girijabala Sanyal and Divyani Mondal as Jaggaseni Sanyal. The cast also includes Rahul Arunoday Banerjee as police officer Brihaspati Mallick and Debraj Bhattacharya as reporter Bedobroto Chakraborty
