Mohammed Nagaman Lateef Criticizes ‘PR Stunt’ Support for Rajpal Yadav Amid Legal Crisis

Actor Rajpal Yadav has surrendered himself to Tihar Jail in connection with a ₹9 crore cheque bounce case, marking a difficult chapter in his ongoing legal and financial troubles. Before surrendering, Yadav reportedly made an emotional appeal, saying, “Sir, kya karoon?” reflecting his distress over the situation. As the news sparked reactions across the film industry and social media, Mohammed Nagaman Lateef, Talent Head of Balaji’s Hoonur, has spoken out, calling much of the public support for Yadav a “PR stunt” rather than genuine help.

Lateef pointed out that Rajpal’s legal issues were not sudden developments. “Rajpal Yadav’s news has been going on for a year,” he said, adding that court proceedings had been ongoing for months. According to him, the actor had already been warned about the consequences if he failed to comply with court orders. “It’s not that the news came out now. It came out earlier as well. Everyone knew it,” Lateef stated.

He further claimed that even days before Rajpal ’s surrender, reports had surfaced indicating that the judge had directed him to present himself. Despite this, Lateef alleged that no substantial support came forward at the time.

Calling out members of the industry who recently expressed solidarity, Lateef said, “Coming out now and saying the industry should come together is just a PR stunt. If there was so much care, they would have helped earlier.”

Mohammed Nagaman Lateef criticized actors and public figures for merely posting social media stories instead of offering tangible assistance. “What will you do by awareness? Awareness is already there in the media. Putting a story doesn’t change anything,” he remarked.

Instead, he suggested a more practical approach. “If you really want to help, create a group. Start donations. If each person gives ₹5 lakh or ₹10 lakh, it can add up. Then openly say how much has been supported and how much is remaining,” he said. Nagaman emphasized that a structured fundraising effort involving co-stars, industry lobbies, and even fans could have made a real difference.

He also alleged that some individuals speaking up now may be doing so for visibility. “Everyone is coming out now. It’s just pathetic. Some may be doing it for reality shows or desperate work,” he claimed.

Nagaman concluded by reiterating that genuine support should be action-driven rather than publicity-focused. “If you want to do it, do it quietly. Ask your lobby, your co-stars. Create a proper link for donations. That would solve the purpose. Just putting a story doesn’t make sense at all.”
