Indie Artist Prabhanjan Drops Afro-Desi Single ‘Thugwa’, Blending Global Beats with Desi Soul

Indie singer-composer Prabhanjan has officially released his much-anticipated Afro-Desi single **‘Thugwa’**, marking a bold new chapter in his musical journey. Known for seamlessly blending Indian classical sensibilities with contemporary global sounds, the artist once again pushes creative boundaries with this high-energy, dancefloor-ready track.
Produced by Buki, Thugwa is an Afro four-on-the-floor track that fuses infectious Afro-pop rhythms with a playful desi Hindi hook. The song narrates the story of a charming yet emotionally unavailable man — confident, smooth-talking, and resistant to commitment — a character that mirrors modern-day situationships with wit and relatability. With flirtatious undertones and pulsating beats, the track is designed for late-night drives, clubs, and high-rotation playlists.
Speaking about the song, Prabhanjan shared, “Thugwa’ is my way of having fun with sound and storytelling. It blends Brij-Hindi roots with a global Afro groove. The hook is inspired by a Kabir Das bhajan sung by Pt. Kumar Gandharva, but I’ve reimagined it with a Gen-Z lens — playful, rhythmic, and carefree. I wanted the song to feel effortless, something you can vibe to without overthinking, whether you’re driving, dancing, or just unwinding.”
Trained in Hindustani classical music since the age of 16 and a graduate in the discipline from Delhi University, Prabhanjan’s musical foundation is deeply rooted in tradition. His background in sound engineering further enables him to bridge classical melodies with modern production aesthetics, creating music that feels both grounded and globally relevant.
Over the years, the artist has carved a distinct space in the indie circuit with multilingual releases in Hindi, Kannada, and Punjabi, earning recognition for his emotional depth and sonic versatility. Tracks like ‘Milte Rahe,’ ‘Bimari,’ and ‘Gir Jaane De’ played a pivotal role in establishing his indie identity and building a loyal listener base.
With Thugwa, Prabhanjan confidently experiments with Afro rhythms while staying true to his Indian roots, reinforcing his position as one of the most exciting and evolving voices in the indie music landscape. The track not only showcases his artistic growth but also highlights his ability to reinterpret traditional influences through a modern, global lens.
As Thugwa makes its way into playlists, it promises to resonate with crossover audiences, offering a sound that’s fresh, flirtatious, and unmistakably Prabhanjan.
